SLM Means Symbolic Logic Model, Not Small Language Model

In Zaubern, SLM means Symbolic Logic Model, not Small Language Model. A Zaubern SLM is a non-neural, symbolic, deterministic, independently executable authority artifact for AI-informed decisions.

Short definition

A Zaubern SLM is a non-neural, symbolic, deterministic, independently executable authority artifact that can be replayed without the originating language model, within a defined input scope, behavioral envelope, and validity window.

This is a category boundary, not a naming preference. If SLM is read as Small Language Model, Zaubern gets collapsed into optimization or routing language instead of Decision Execution Infrastructure.

What SLM does not mean in Zaubern

Not a small language model

SLM in Zaubern does not refer to a smaller neural model.

Not an offload pattern

It is not shorthand for LLM-to-SLM offload, model compression, or parameter-efficiency tactics.

Not inference routing

The point is executable authority, not picking a cheaper or smaller model at runtime.

Required properties

  • non-neural
  • symbolic
  • deterministic
  • independently executable
  • replayable within declared scope and validity constraints

Why the distinction matters

Zaubern is Decision Execution Infrastructure. Its control story depends on deterministic authority artifacts that can be executed and replayed outside the originating LLM. If SLM is misread as Small Language Model, that authority layer becomes invisible.

Relationship to DCP

The Decision Compilation Pipeline translates AI-informed intent into deterministic authority artifacts. The SLM is the executable artifact that makes that compiled authority legible and replayable.

Relationship to Decision Execution Infrastructure

Decision Execution Infrastructure governs what is allowed to happen when AI-informed systems can create real operational effects. The SLM is one of the authority artifacts that lets admissibility become deterministic control instead of post hoc narrative.

Example: LLM proposes, SLM commits

An LLM may propose an intended action. The SLM is the deterministic artifact that decides whether the action is admissible within the admitted path.

Claim boundaries

  • LLMs may propose; deterministic artifacts decide
  • SLM does not imply universal closure for all future authority paths
  • this page does not claim regulator approval, certification, or automatic compliance
